missing her

it has been a joy to share my children with my gramma.  of my children, lily and her were especially close.  lily would sit on her lap, go from room to room searching for her.  on a recent trip to the cabin, lily cried because i would not let her sleep with gramma.

during the last week of her life we were together at silver lake.  it was my grammas favorite vacation spot and has a special place in all our hearts. a family tradition of about 60 years.  lots of memories have been made at this lake and i love seeing my children enjoy the same things i did as a child.

a week ago today my gramma passed away after having a stroke.  the day before lily had snuck away and climbed up into gramma's bed with her. lily loved sitting with gramma in her cottage.  gramma told me that her and lily would just chat away.  one night i stopped by gramma's cottage and she was in tears. i asked her what was wrong and she replied that they were tears of joy because 'it was all so beautiful.  life.  to be able to watch your children grow. to know your grandchildren.  spend time with your great grandchildren.  its just so beautiful.'.

i think in her heart she knew her time with us was ending.  it was time for her soul to move on. she was such a strong, brave woman. soft, gentle, kind, and always calm and peaceful.  we miss you gramma meyer, as i am sure you know.  i am saddened that you are no longer here with us, but joyful knowing that you are in heaven with papa, looking down upon us.  until we meet again...

  2. Veery touching Heather! I know she felt very blessed to bee able to spend so much time with Lily and yourself. Lily and her Great Gramma had quite the connection for sure, she was a little Heaven sent angel to brighten her day whenever she was around her. Amazing how they would look after each other.......too cute and so sweet. Gramma was given them special last days of life with those she loved and felt truly blessed, an amazing woman indeed. We were truly blessed to have her for so close to us, she has taught us much. Loved that Mom to me, Gramma to you and Gramma Meyer to all of your children..we cherish the memories.

    Love ya, Mom
