a bit of new

his newest interest is learning about different cultures and countries.

will he follow my footsteps and join the peace corps?

of course traveling around the world is not an option, so he is involved in a new class 'around the world' at school where they get their passports and off they go.   this week was africa.  he has been inspired.  this little boy usually speeds through art projects as quickly as possible... however, for africa, he took his time, the art was neatly done, he was even the last one out of the room.

it was also a big day because he came in 2nd place for the spelling bee (for his grade). hip hip hooray! and his best friend came in with the gold.  luke's teacher mentioned that she saw his eyes starting to tear, so she quickly went over to congratulate him and remind him that it was his best friend who won.  it was a big step in the right direction for him.  luke is very competitive and not always the best at handling disappointments.  he handled it well.  when i went to pick him up and he told me he was 2nd in his WHOLE grade, not just his class.  he was happy for his best friend... big step!  maybe we can start playing games at home again.  i had put everything away because he would get so emotional about winning.  maybe he is turning over a new leaf.... lets hope!

  1. Uh oh ... that's very "Lewis" to vigorously compete at a game.
